This was a pleasing combination for our breakfast smoothie. Like most smoothies, there is a lot of flexibility to use what you have on hand, or what is in season, or local, or whatever floats your life preserver.:-) The basic ingredients are the cherry cider (found mine at Trader Joe's) and the chocolate or cocoa powder. I've been using a chocolate flavored protein powder lately, and it is a nice thickening agent as well as a good cocoa flavoring for my smoothies. Feel free to add other nutritional supplements. I like to add some combination of flax seed, bee pollen, spirulina, chia seeds, vitamin and mineral powders, etc. Ingredients:
3 cups cherry cider |
2 tablespoons chocolate protein powder |
2 cups ice |
1 cup kale or 1 cup spinach or 1 cup other leafy greens |
1 apples or 1 kiwi or 1 pear |
Directions:
1. Add all to your blender and blend until smooth. Taste, and adjust the balance of cherry and chocolate to taste. Bananas and dates are great sweeteners if needed. |
