From Scotland's Enchanted Kingdom comes this recipe for Black Buns. Used for all major holidays and some not so major ones, thet are super delicious and when cool may be kept in a closed tin. Ingredients:

8oz plain flour 4oz butter |
half teaspoon baking powder |
cold water |
filling |
2lb seedless raisins |
3lb washed currants |
8oz chopped, blanched almonds |
12oz plain flour |
8oz soft brown sugar |
2 tbs ground allspice |
1 tsp each of ground ginger, ground cinnamon, baking powder and black pepper |
1 level tsp cream of tartar |
2 tbs brandy |
5 fl oz milk |
1 large, beaten egg |
Directions:
1. Pastry Case 2. - 3. Grease an 8 loaf tin. 4. Rub the fats into the flour. 5. Add Baking powder and a little water to make a stiff dough. 6. Roll out on a floured board to a thin sheet. 7. Line the loaf tin with the dough, leaving enough for the top. 8. - 9. Filling 10. - 11. Mix all the ingredients together except the milk. 12. Add enough milk just to moisten the mixture. 13. Mix thoroughly 14. - 15. Fill the pastry case with the mixture. 16. Add the remaining pastry to the top. 17. Brush with beaten egg or milk on top. 18. Prick with a fork, brushing with more egg/milk. 19. Bake for around 3 hours a cool oven 225 degrees F |
