I got this one from the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook. It makes the fluffiest biscuits I have ever tried. Ingredients:
3 cups flour |
1 tablespoon baking powder |
1 tablespoon sugar |
1 teaspoon salt |
3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar |
3/4 cup butter, softened |
1 cup buttermilk, sour milk or 1 cup milk |
Directions:
1. To make sour milk, add 1 tbs lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup of milk and let stand for 5 minute. 2. Preheat oven to 450. 3. Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl. 4. Cut butter into flour mix until it looks like small peas. 5. Add milk and mix until until dough sticks together and forms a ball. 6. Knead 6-8 times on floured surface. 7. Roll dough flat until it is about a 1/2 thick and cut with a floured biscuit cutter. 8. Place on ungreased sheet pan and bake 10-15 minutes, or until golden. |
