Oh yes, this one takes me back! My Pa Buck used to make this for breakfast. My cousins and aunts and brothers would all eat it until we were nearly sick! It's super with scrambled eggs and ham. Oh yeah, you have GOT to try some scrambled eggs that accidentally got a little of this chocolate on them! Read more ! I just realized that I consider this recipe a family heirloom. Ingredients:
1/4 to 1/3 cup granulated sugar (use the larger amount if you want it to make your teeth hurt!) |
3 tbsp. cocoa powder |
1 tbsp. plus 1 tsp. all-purpose flour |
pinch salt |
1 cup plus 2 tbsp. milk |
1 tbsp. unsalted butter, cut into quarters |
Directions:
1. Combine sugar, cocoa, flour, and salt in a sauce pan. Add 1/4 cup of the milk and whisk briskly to form a smooth paste. Heat the remaining milk over medium heat until very hot. Remove from heat. Gradually whisk into cocoa mixture. Scrape sides and bottom of pot with rubber spatula, then set pot over medium heat. Cook and stir until gravy comes to a boil, scraping pot bottom and sides occasionally. When gravy comes to a full boil, reduce heat to a low boil. Boil and stir for 4 minutest. Remove from heat. Immediately add butter. Spoon over piping-hot open-faced biscuits with plenty of butter. |
