This is a great recipe to make with kids - they can shake up the biscuit pieces to coat them with sugar and assemble the cake with you. Be sure your little helpers help you eat the cake too!! Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour |
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed |
2 tablespoons baking powder |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1 teaspoon salt |
3/4 cup all vegetable shortening, cold |
1 1/2 cups milk, cold |
1 cup brown sugar |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/4 cup butter, melted |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F Gease a 10-inch tube pan. 2. BISCUITS: Place dry ingredients in a large bowl. Cut in shortening until it resembles coarse meal. Add milk. Knead dough until it comes together. On a lightly floured surface pat or roll out dough to a 1-inch thickness. Cut into 1-2 inch pieces. 3. ASSEMBLY: Place brown sugar and cinnamon in a plastic storage bag. Place a few cut biscuits in the bag at a time, shake well to coat. Place in prepared baking pan. After you have one layer done, sprinkle with 2 tablespoons butter and 1/4 cup of the sugar over the biscuits. Continue layering biscuit pieces until all are used. Drizzle on remaining butter and sprinkle with remaining sugar mixture. 4. Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes. Remove from pan and serve immediately. 5. Place the warm cake on the table, and let everyone pull it apart to eat. |
