Makes a four-inch pan of nice, fluffy white basmati rice. I have only tested it with white basmati rice, but I suspect it would work well with other types of white rice. I adapted this recipe from the book The Best Recipe. Ingredients:
1 gallon white basmati rice |
1 gallon water |
1 1/2 quarts water |
2 tablespoons salt |
1 cup oil or 1 cup butter |
Directions:
1. Heat the oil/butter in a large, thick bottomed pot. Add the rice. Cook, stirring constantly for about 3 minutes. Sauteing the rice brings out the nutty aromatic flavors. 2. Add the water and salt. Swirl and bring to a boil. 3. Reduce heat to low. Cover tightly and cook until the water is absorbed. 4. Remove from heat. Let the rice stand, still covered, to finish cooking. 5. Transfer to a 4 pan and serve. |
