Big Gramma was from Kentucky. She raised 7 sons on this recipe. Not just a holiday dish, she made it when she made fried chicken Ingredients:
1 large can yams or |
6-8 medium sweet potatoes |
1/2 stick butter |
1/2 cup or more dark brown sugar |
1/2 cup good kentucky sippin' whiskey (bourbon) |
mini marshmellows if desired |
cinnamon |
grated fresh ginger or powdered ginger |
toasted chopped pecans, about 1 cup or more |
Directions:
1. Place canned yams in medium baking dish or boil and roughly mash sweet potatoes in salted water ( peeling is optional) then place in baking dish 2. dot potatoes with butter. use more if desired 3. sprinkle with brown sugar and ginger 4. pour bourbon over potatoes mixing as possible 5. sprinkle with marshmellows, cinnamon and pecans 6. * be sure to drain yams or sweet potatoes before placing in pan 7. bake in moderate oven (350) for 30 or 45 minutes |
