These are the cookies that my mom used to make every Christmas time. Ingredients:
1 cup shortening |
1/2 cup white sugar |
1/2 cup brown sugar |
2 eggs |
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract |
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1/4 cup colored sugar for decoration |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets. 2. In a large bowl, cream together the shortening, white sugar and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; blend into the creamed mixture. Roll dough into 1/2 inch balls and place them 1 inch apart onto the prepared cookie sheets. Flatten each ball slightly and sprinkle with colored sugar. 3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely. |
