This is a simple bread that goes excellent with pastas, salads, buffets or any event when you wish to have a starch other than rice or beans. When you have the urge for lots of garlic butter, this fills the bill ! Read more ! The name came when I heard the exclamation: This is almost better than sex! Naturally, I smiled and took the compliment - and still a bit unsure what to do, I humbly publish this recipe !!! Ingredients:
one standard sourdough, multi-grain or other baguette, about 18 to 24 inches |
one cube of butter |
one teaspoon (yes, that much) garlic powder - or two tablespoons fresh / prepared crushed garlic |
8 ounces freshly grated parmesan or romano cheese - the really hard variety grates best... |
Directions:
1. Slice the baguette into 1/4 inch slices, starting about an inch from one end. Try not to cut all the way through the bottom crust, as you will want to have a place for the extra butter to land. 2. Tear off a 2 foot piece of aluminum foil, and place the sliced baguette on it. 3. Melt the cube of butter, and mix in the garlic. 4. With a pastry brush, apply a LIBERAL amount of garlic butter to both sides of each mini-slice. (Now you know why the foil comes in handy....) When done, you should have about a third or less of the butter mixture left. If necessary, repeat this step. Note: Sometimes I can't find my brush, so I just drizzle the butter in between the slices.....sigh.... 5. Sprinkle the freshly grated cheese in between each slice, reserving about 1/4 cup for the top. 6. Drizzle the remaining butter over the top of the baguette, and top with the extra cheese. 7. Fold the foil over the baguette to create a nice seal, and bake in a 350 degree oven for about 10 to 15 minutes, until the bread is suitably warmed. 8. To serve, simply bring the foil wrapped baguette out, place the whole thing on a narrow breadboard or in a basket, and tell your guests to sample.... 9. They will have to tear the slices off the loaf , and that's what makes this simple addition such a treat. 10. Don't ask for calorie or other nutritional info please, just make sure you know a great cardiologist '-) |
