1 cup real butter |
4 eggs |
1 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon soda |
2 teaspoons vanilla |
2 cups sugar |
3 cups flour |
1 teaspoon baking powder |
1 cup buttermilk |

Directions:
1. CAKE: 2. Cream 1 cup butter 3. Gradually add 2 cups sugar 4. Blend in 4 eggs, one at a time 5. Combine 3 cups flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon soda 6. Combine 1 cup buttermilk with 2 teaspoons vanilla 7. Add milk and flour mixtures alternately to creamed mixture, ending with dry mixture 8. Mix well 9. Turn into greased 9x15 casserole or cake pan 10. Bake at 325° for 40 - 55 minutes 11. (Tooth Pick Test - to See If It Comes Out Clean) for Doneness 12. ........ 13. .................. 14. ........................................ 15. French Butter Cream Frosting: 16. 2/3 cup sugar 17. 1/4 cup flour 18. 1/4 teaspoon salt 19. 3/4 cup milk 20. 1 cup cold butter 21. 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract 22. Place sugar, flour and salt in saucepan and mix thoroughly, stir in milk. Cook over medium heat and stir constantly until very thick. Remove from heat and pour into a medium mixing bowl. Cool to room temperature. Add 1/2 cup butter at a time (cut into several pieces) and beat at medium-high speed until smooth. Add vanilla and beat well. 23. Chill icing for a few minutes before decorating. Iced cake must be refrigerated until serving time. 24. Makes 2 cups |
