3 cups granulated sugar |
2 sticks unsalted butter |
5 eggs |
3 cups all-purpose flour |
1 teaspoon salt |
1 cup buttermilk |
1/4 teaspoon soda dissolved in 1 tablespoon hot water |
2 teaspoons quality vanilla |
Directions:
1. Cream butter and sugar well 2. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition 3. Add flour (sifted with salt) alternately with buttermilk 4. Add soda/hot water mixture 5. Beat well, add vanilla 6. Pour into greased and floured tube pan and bake 1 hour and 20 minutes at 300 degrees 7. The crust on this cake makes icing unnecessary |
