Bertha's Mullitgatawny Soup

Bertha is a lady at my church and makes this very nice soup. I have not made it yet but have had it made by Bertha and it is good.
Ingredients:
1 medium onion, sliced
1/4 cup butter
1 medium carrot, diced
1 stalk celery, diced
1 green pepper, diced
1 medium apple, pared, cored, and sliced
1 cup cooked chicken, diced
1/3 cup flour
1 teaspoon curry powder
1/8 teaspoon mace
2 whole cloves, chopped
1 sprig parsley, minced
2 cups beef consomme
1 cup cooked tomato
salt and pepper
Directions:
1. Saute onion in butter in dutch oven.
2. Stir carrot, celery, green pepper, apple and chicken.
3. Stir, gradually add remaining ingredients.
4. Simmer covered for 30 minutes.
