Beer -Ah what a versatile ingredient- is there anything it can't do?-A simple twist on classic stew with a very distinct hoppy flavour depending on the beer you use-The darker and more flavourful the better I think
Ingredients:
500g lean good quality stewing steak diced
knob of butter , few tablespoons of olive oil
1 large onion chopped finely
4 cloves of garlic crushed
1 heaped tblspoon of flour
bay leaves
diced carrotts , leeks/turnips/parsnips/mushrooms/potatoes
500ml of good quality dark bock beer or equivalent
500 ml of good quality beef stock
sea salt
pepper
Directions:
1. Brown the meat in a hot pan with the garlic/onion oil/butter and add the flour
2. add veggies and bay leaf and stir for 10 mins
3. Add the beer and turn up the heat to reduce for about 5 mins
4. Add the beef stock and turn down to simmer for 30 mins
5. Salt and pepper to taste
