This cake was the result of a dare. Someone said they thought putting beer in a cake would act like yeast does in bread. I said it wouldn't. They dared me to try it, so I did. It was the best tasting bet I ever lost! Read more ! Ingredients:
2 cups light brown sugar |
1 cup crisco |
3 cups flour |
1 12 ounce can of beer |
2 eggs |
2 teaspoons baking soda |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon allspice |
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 cup chopped nut (optional) |
2 cups dates, chopped (optional) |
Directions:
1. In a mixing bowl, cream together sugar and and oil. 2. Beat in eggs. 3. Add flour, salt and baking soda. 4. Stir in beer. 5. Add spices, nuts and dates; beat well. 6. Pour into a greased tube pan. 7. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes. |
