Made this up to feed the kids coming home late from baseball practice. It fits the criteria of popularity and speedy final prep. Ingredients:
2 lbs hamburger |
3 tablespoons salad oil |
1 tablespoon onion powder |
1 tablespoon garlic powder |
1 tablespoon oregano |
1 tablespoon basil |
3 tablespoons chili powder |
24 ounces tomato puree |
1/2 cup karo syrup |
salt and pepper |
6 english muffins, split |
2 cups mozzarella-cheddar blend cheese |
Directions:
1. Saute hamburg in salad oil, breaking up until fairly even textured. Season with onion powder, garlic, oregano, basil and chili powder. Saute 1 minute. Add puree and simmer 10 minutes to evaporate some of the liquid. Add karo syrup, salt and pepper. 2. Toast English muffins lightly, then cover with meat mixture, sprinkle with cheeses and either bake at 350° until the cheese melts, or freeze on a cookie sheet, removing to an air-tight container once they are solid. |
