my adaptation of Betty Crocker's Ingredients:
2 lbs beef chuck, cut into one inch cubes |
6 cups water |
1/4 teaspoon pepper |
6 potatoes, cut into chunks |
6 carrots, sliced |
2 stalks celery, sliced (optional) |
1 -2 cup onion, chopped |
2 beef bouillon cubes |
2 bay leaves |
cold water |
1/4 cup flour or 1/4 cup cornstarch |
Directions:
1. Simmer beef in water 2 - 2 1/2 hours. 2. Stir in veggies and spices. Simmer another 30 minutes until tender. 3. Mix cold water and flour together and stir into hot stew. Boil and stir one minute, stirring constantly. 4. Serve with bread and butter. |
