My mom found this recipe in the newspaper years & years ago & it has become a family favorite. Because of the size of our family, I normally double the recipe. Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef or 1 lb ground turkey |
1/4 cup diced green pepper |
1/2 cup minced onion |
1/2 cup diced celery |
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce |
1/2 cup water |
1 garlic clove, minced |
2 tablespoons wine vinegar |
1 teaspoon dry mustard |
1/2 teaspoon ground thyme |
1 tablespoon brown sugar |
1 (28 ounce) can baked beans, of choice |
Directions:
1. Cook meat, green pepper, onion and celery over medium heat until vegetables are tender. Drain. 2. Add tomato sauce, water, garlic, vinegar, mustard and brown sugar. Mix well and simmer 5 minutes. 3. Add beans and mix well. 4. Pour mixture into 1-1/2 quart casserole and bake at 375 for 45 minutes. |
