This fried pastry is a Canadian favorate. Even President OBAMA stopped by a local eatery and purchased one when he visited Canada's capital in February. Ingredients:
1 tsp granulated sugar |
1 1/4 cups lukewarm water |
1 tsp yeast |
1tsp veg oil |
1/2 tsp salt |
2 1/2 cups flour |
oil for frying |
butter & cinnamon sugar |
Directions:
1. Disolve sugar in water. 2. Add yeast, set aside for 5 minutes. 3. Add oil & salt. 4. Gradually fold in flour. 5. Knead to a smooth texture. 6. Smear a small amount of oil ontop of dough and cover with plastic wrap. 7. Let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes. 8. Roll dough on lightly floured board to 1/2-inch thickness. 9. Cut into 3x5 strips. fry until golden brown. 10. Drain on paper towels. 11. Spread on butter while still hot & sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Serve, while warm. |
