What child would not adore gobbling up these beastly bug cookies? Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups sugar |
1 cup butter, softened |
2 eggs |
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour |
2 teaspoons cream of tartar |
1 teaspoon baking soda |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
topping ingredients |
3 tablespoons sugar |
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon |
decorations ingredients |
black or red licorice laces, cut into 1-inch pieces |
small gumdrops |
frosting ingredients |
2 cups powdered sugar |
2 tablespoons butter, softened |
1 teaspoon vanilla |
1 to 2 tablespoons milk |
food color |
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 400°F. Combine 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1 cup butter and eggs in large bowl. Beat at medium speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Reduce speed to low; add all remaining cookie ingredients. Beat until well mixed. 2. Stir together 3 tablespoons sugar and cinnamon in small bowl. Shape rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into 1 1/4 inch balls; roll in sugar mixture. Place 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until set. 3. Immediately insert 3 licorice pieces into each side of cookie for legs. Cool completely. 4. Combine powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons butter and vanilla in small bowl. Beat at medium speed, gradually adding enough milk for desired spreading consistency. Tint with food color, if desired. 5. Frost cooled cookies. Place gumdrop on cookie to form head. Cut additional 1/8-inch pieces of licorice; place on frosting for spots. |
