Must have delishious side dish for any picnic,BBQ These will become your favorite Beans ever. Doug Ingredients:
1 medium sweet onion ,diced |
8 oz bacon cut in 1/2 inch squares |
1/2 cup molassas |
1/2 cup dark brown sugar |
1/2 to 2 tsp chipotle powder depending on hotness desired |
1/4 tsp garlic powder |
2 cups hunts standard ketchup |
1 1/2 tbl frenches yellow mustard |
1 pound bag of navy beans |
4 qt water |
course sea salt and black peper to taste |
edit: forgot most important ingredient: 12 oz beer |
Directions:
1. Soak Navy Beans over night in room temp water, drain before adding to Dutch oven 2. In a saute' pan cook bacon to render most of fat but not brown 3. Add onion and cook till tender, drain off fat 4. In a large Dutch oven put all ingredients and bring to boil 5. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook stirring often to keep from sticking cooking time will be from 3 1/2 hours to 5 hours till 6. beansare soft and tender 7. You can also premake these and put a pan of them in your smoker while smoking them Ribs or Pork Shoulders for extra smokey flavor. |
