A great scone for an afternoon tea as well was served with an Italian soup Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour |
1/4 cup shredded or grated parmesan cheese |
2 teaspoons baking powder |
1/2 teaspoon baking soda |
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil or 3 tsp. dried |
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper |
2/3 cup buttermilk |
3 tablespoons oil |
1 tablespoon egg substitute or 1 egg |
Directions:
1. Combine the flour, cheese, baking powder, baking soda, 2. basil and pepper in a medium bowl. 3. Add the buttermilk and oil. 4. Mix until dry ingredients are JUST moistened. 5. Divide the dough into 2 balls. 6. Knead gently 3-4 times on floured surface. 7. Pat the dough into 2 circles 7-8 inches in diameter. 8. With a sharp knife score each into 6 wedges but do not cut all the 9. way through. 10. Bake in preheated 400 F. oven, 10-12 minutes 11. until golden brown. |
