It's not nearly as difficult to make a good basic cake recipe from scratch. This recipe can be used for a wide variety of cakes, adding whatever flavors you prefer! It's also a good keeper. Ingredients:
8 cups cake and pastry flour |
6 cups white sugar |
1/4 cup baking powder |
1/4 cup baking soda |
1 tsp salt |
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, sift together cake flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. 2. Mix well. 3. Store in jars or other airtight containers. This mix will keep almost indefinitely on the shelf of the pantry, or your freezer, and you only need use what you want for each specific cake you're about to bake. 4. For a basic white cake, all you need is: 5. 2 cups of the dry mix 6. 1 egg, beaten 7. 1/4 cup vegetable oil 8. 1/4 cup whole milk 9. 1 tsp vanilla 10. Then, add your favorite flavoring, and mix well. 11. Baking time will depend on the type and size of pan you're using. |
