A old family favorite, that has been passed down for years. Ingredients:
3/4 cup sugar |
5 tablespoons flour |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1 1/2 cups milk |
1/2 teaspoon vanilla |
2 egg yolks beaten |
1 tablespoon margarine or butter |
1 baked pie shell |
several banana's |
appox dozen vanilla wafer cookies |
Directions:
1. Combine sugar n flour and mix well in top of double boiler.Blend in milk ,vanilla and egg yolks. Add butter.Cook over boiling water cook until thick and smooth about 7 minutes. 2. Remove from heat n let cool in pan of ice water. Don't stir. 3. Slice several banana's and line bottom of pie crust, add vanilla wafers over top of banana's. Top with cooled pudding filling.Refrigerate several hours. 4. Before serving arrange more banana slices around outside edge of pie and sprinkle with vanilla wafer crumbs. 5. Variations 6. Cocoa Creme Pie 7. Add 4 tablespoons cocoa to sugar n flour and use 2 tablespoons margarine. Place in baked pie shell 8. Butterscotch Creme Pie 9. Substitute 3/4 cup packed brown sugar for the white sugar. Place in baked pie shell 10. Vanilla creme Pie 11. Eliminate bananas n wafer. Pour into baked pie shell |
