Another recipe from my old Vidalia onion promotional pamphlet from the grocery store. Servings and ingredient portions are up to you! Ingredients:
large vidalia onions |
lots of butter |
salt and pepper to taste |
aluminum foil |
boullion cubes (optional, your favorite flavor) |
worchestershire sauce (optional) |
Directions:
1. Core onions. 2. Fill the middle of onions with salt and pepper and plenty of butter. 3. Wrap each onion individually in aluminum foil. 4. Bake at 350 for 30 to 45 minutes, until tender but do not overbake. Overbaking will cause the onions to have a tough texture. 5. Option 1: Make ahead, wrap and store in freezer. When you remove from freezer, put directly in oven; do NOT thaw first. 6. Option 2: Add 1 boullion cube to the butter in the middle of each onion. 7. Option 3: Add 1 tablespoon Worchestershire sauce to the butter in the middle of each onion. 8. Option 4: Microwave option: Do not wrap onions in foil. Place unwrapped filled onions in a glass pie plate. Cover with plastic wrap. Turn back one edge to vent. Microwave on high until fork tender (time will vary depending upon your microwave, and size and number of Vidalias you use). 9. Option 5: Place foil-wrapped Vidalias on your grill and cook until tender (I don't grill so have never used this method and can't tell you how long, but if you grill regularly you don't need me to tell you how long to cook onions!) |
