This is my favorite greek dish.I first had this as a teenager at diner I worked at. After many attempts this is as close as I could get.It's not the same but very tasty. Ingredients:
1 lb ground chuck |
1 medium onion |
2 minced garlic cloves |
2 tablespoons tomato paste |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1/2 teaspoon pepper |
2 pinches cinnamon |
1 lb penne pasta |
1 quart milk |
4 large eggs |
3 tablespoons flour |
1/2 cup butter |
3/4 lb feta cheese, crumbeled |
Directions:
1. put water for pasta to boil. 2. chop onion finely. 3. mince garlic cloves. 4. cook ground chuck with the onion and garlic till no longer pink. 5. add paste and cook for 2 min.longer. 6. drain fat. 7. boil pasta. 8. melt butter and add flour stir together to make rue and cook a minute. 9. add milk and crumbled feta cheese to milk/flour mixture. 10. stir till thicken over medium heat(should be thick as pancake batter). 11. layer meat mixture in 4qt.cassarole dish. 12. add pasta 13. pour milk cheese mix over the top. 14. bake at 350 for 45min or till light brown and bubbly. 15. cool slightly slice and enjoy. |
