This is a great comfort food. My kids LOVE it and when we have parties it's the first item people ask if I made. You can adjust the fat in it by using skim milk and low fat cheese. Ingredients:
3 cups elbow macaroni |
1/4 cup onion |
2 tablespoons flour |
4 cups milk |
6 teaspoons butter |
salt & pepper |
1/4 cup breadcrumbs |
1 1/4 lbs american cheese (white) |
Directions:
1. Cook 3 cups elbow macaroni in boiling salted water until tender; drain. 2. While cooking macaroni in 4 quart saucepan melt butter, add onion. Cook for about 4-5 minutes. Add flour. Once bubbly add milk, cook until thick and bubbly. Add 1 slice at a time the cheese(leaving 6 slices for top). Once all cheese in melted add macaroni to cheese sauce. Mix well. Pour into long rectangular pan. Add 6 slices to top then sprinkle with breadcrumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for about 40-45 minutes. Enjoy. |
