Took a ride today to the Berkshires to leaf peep and stopped at a farm stand...While there, I talked to a cashier about apple recipes and she passed this one along to me...Can't wait to try. Ingredients:
4 large tart apples, cored and peeled 3/4 inch off top |
1/2 cup apple juice |
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed |
12 red hot candies |
1/4 cup butter |
8 caramels |
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, optional |
Directions:
1. Put apples into slow cooker 2. Pour juice over apples 3. Fill center of each apple with 2 tbls. sugar, three red hots, 1 tbls. butter and 2 caramels 4. Sprinkle with cinnamon 5. Cover and cook on low for 4 hours or until apples are tender 6. Serve with whipped cream and/or vanilla ice cream |
