Baked Apples with Chai-Spiced Maple Syrup |

Ingredients:
4 small apples, cored |
2 tablespoons butter, chilled and cut into 4 equal pieces |
1/4 cup maple syrup |
1 teaspoon cornstarch |
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger |
1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom |
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves |
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 450°. 2. Place apples in an 8-inch square glass or ceramic baking dish; place 1 butter piece in center of each apple. Combine syrup and remaining ingredients in a small bowl, stirring with a whisk; pour over apples. Cover dish with foil; bake at 450° for 25 minutes or until tender. Remove from oven; place 1 apple on each of 4 plates. Stir cooking liquid with a whisk; divide liquid evenly among servings. |
