Baked Apple Donuts

A no-fry southern sugar-crusted apple donut, from my then friend Patsy.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup sifted flour
1 3/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 nutmet
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup melted butter - for rolling
1/3 cup sugar
1 egg beaten
1/4 cup milk
1 cup grated apple
1 tsp cinnamon
Directions:
1. Sift flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and sugar.
2. Cut in shortening.
3. Mix egg, milk and apple, add all at once to the dry ingredients and mix quickly but thoroughly.
4. Fill greased pans (muffin tins) 2/3 full.
5. Bake 350 degrees for 20 - 25 minutes.
6. Remove and roll in melted butter and the sugar & cinnamon.
7. Best served warm.
