This is the Polish way we make the American version of cabbage & noodles. I was brought up eating it this way & love it so much I only once made it with noodles & went back to the old country way I f you never tasted this way it's worth trying. Read more . Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1 medium to large head of cabbage, chopped
3 sticks of butter or more as desired
2 large onions ,chopped
potatoe dumplings
2 cups mashed potatoes, cooled
2 well-beaten eggs
salt
flour
Directions:
1. In large bowl:
2. Add mashed potatoes, eggs and blend thoroughly.
3. Add enough flour with a little salt in to knead into a soft pliable dough that will not stick.
4. Make into rolls and slice in about 1 inch pieces
5. drop into boiling water and boil about 12 min.
6. To test for doneness, break one open with fork after you take out of boiling water.
7. Drain in small hole colander. (You can rinse if you prefer. I don't)
8. While boiling the dumplings, sautee (in large fry pan )butter ,cabbage and onions until golden brown.
9. Add drained dumplings to fry pan and fry a little longer .Mix it all well while frying but don't overdo so dumplings stay together.
