These are usually made for Hanukkah but they can also be made for Christmas and Easter. Ingredients:
1/2 lb unsalted butter or margarine -softened (2 sticks) |
3/4 cup granulated sugar |
2 eggs |
1 tbsp. brandy or vanilla |
3-1/2 cups flour |
1 egg yolk |
chopped nuts and raisins or -1 egg white coarse sugar colored with - blue food coloring |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. In a bowl cream butter and sugar. 3. Then mix in the eggs brandy salt vanilla and flour. 4. Let rest for at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator. 5. Roll out the dough to 1/8-inch thick. 6. You can use cookie cutters or a knife to cut cookies out in any shape you want. 7. Place gently on baking sheet. 8. Then either brush with egg yolk or sprinkle with nuts / raisins / brush with egg white and sprinkle with blue sugar. 9. Bake for about 10 minutes or until lightly browned. 10. Use a metal spatula to gently remove each cookie from the baking sheet to a cooling rack or flat plate. 11. Makes 48 Cookies |
