This recipe is taken from a cookbook issued by the Sisterhood of KK Beth Elohim in Charleston, SC in 1977. Ingredients:
1 (1 lb) jar herring in wine sauce |
1 (3 7/8 ounce) jar pitted black olives, cut up |
2 tomatoes, cut up |
1 green pepper, cut in rings |
1 bermuda onion, cut in rings |
chili sauce, as needed |
Directions:
1. Remove the herring from the jar, leaving marinade and onions in jar. Fill the jar with chili sauce and mix together well. Pour this marinade over the reserved herring which has been put in a bowl. Add the remaining ingredients except the tomatoes, stir, and let stand for at least 4 hours. Put the tomatoes in last. |
