This is my Aunt Jo's recipe for her wonderful fruit salad. She gave me the recipe in 1971. Ingredients:
sweet dressing: 1/2 cup butter. |
1 cup sugar. |
3 large eggs. |
1/2 pint whipped cream |
juice of 2 lemons. |
fruit: one large bunch of green and one large bunch of purple grapes. look for the seedless variety. |
1 pineapple or two medium size cans. |
2 oranges |
6 bananas |
3 red apples |
hand full of walnuts |
1/2 package of mini marshmallows if desired. |
Directions:
1. Sweet Dressing: Cream together butter and sugar. 2. Beat the 3 eggs well. 3. In a double boiler add all the dressing ingrediants plus the lemon juice. 4. Cook until thickened. Stirring constantly..... approx. 20 min. 5. Store covered in the fridge unitl ready for use. Minimum 6 hours. I usually prepare dressing the day before. 6. When ready for use stir in the whipped cream. 7. Fruit: Halve all the grapes and seed if necessary. 8. Chop pinapple into bite size pieces. 9. Peel and chop oranges into bite size pieces. 10. Peel and chop apples into bite size pieces. 11. Peel and slice the bananas, this should be the last fruit cut so they won't turn brown on you. 12. Carefully mix the fruit and dressing. Add the walnuts and mix again. 13. Enjoy! 14. Sorry for the pear in the picture...it was the best I could do! |
