Aunt Carol's Molasses Sugar Cookies |

These are soft and chewy. They are the only molasses/gingersnap cookie I have ever liked. And, I love these. They are wonderful dipped in coffee. Ingredients:
3/4 cup shortening (do not use margarine) |
1 cup sugar |
1/4 cup natural dark molasses |
1 egg |
2 teaspoons baking soda |
2 cups flour |
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves |
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger |
1/2 teaspoon salt |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
Directions:
1. Melt shortening over low heat. Remove from heat and let cool. 2. Add sugar, molasses, and egg; beating well. 3. Add dry ingredients. 4. Chill. 5. Roll into 1 inch balls and roll in white sugar. Press down with a fork or glass on top of each ball. 6. Bake 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees. |
