Asparagus With Chicken-Cheese Sauce

Ingredients:
1 pound fresh asparagus, cleaned
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
1 cup (4 ounces) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/4 teaspoon grated lemon rind
2 cups chopped cooked chicken
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
Directions:
1. Cook asparagus; drain. Transfer to a serving platter; keep warm.
2. Melt butter in a saucepan; add flour, stirring until smooth. Gradually add milk; cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened. Add cheese; stir until cheese melts. Add lemon rind, chicken, salt, and pepper; mix well. Spoon sauce over asparagus.
