I made this recipe a while ago while tinkering around in the kitchen. Now my family demands it every holiday........kind of a change up from the usual dishes. This works really well with spinach too. Also, the sauce is great on anything, especially used as a marinade. I highly recommend marinating chicken, or tofu in this sauce and grilling it. The sauce can really be toyed with, so take out anything that doesn't appeal to you. * Personal Note: My stepmother hates Asian food, but loves this recipe, so give it a shot.
Ingredients:
1 1/2-2 lbs green beans (cleaned & stems removed)
5 pieces pre- cooked bacon (cut into small strips)
1/2 large white onion (cut into half-rings , size comparable to the green beans)
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
1/2 cup chopped unsalted cashews (optional) or 1/2 cup peanuts (optional)
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon sriracha chili sauce (or to taste)
1 teaspoon chopped cilantro
1 teaspoon chopped fresh ginger
1/2 teaspoon chopped garlic
1 teaspoon rice wine vinegar
1 teaspoon hoisin sauce
1 teaspoon oyster sauce
squeeze honey
Directions:
1. Mix all ingedients for sauce in a bowl and set off to the side.
2. You will need 1 large pot to blanch green beans, 1 large stir-fry pan, and 1 strainer.
3. Bring water to boil in large pot (add a tablespoon of salt and juice of 1 lemon to pot - salt for flavor, and lemon juice to keep the green beans green - not necassary though). Once the water comes to a boil, add olive oil and sesame oil to the stir-fry pan; heat on medium heat & add onions and pre-cooked bacon to stir-fry pan, and let cook until onions are translucent. While the onions begin to cook, place the green beans in boiling water. Let green beans cook for 3-4 minutes, then strain and rinse under cold water. Once onions become translucent, turn heat to high and add the green beans, sesame seeds and cashews/nuts (optional). cook for 2-3 minutes. Add sauce to taste at this point (keep in mind, the sauce is rather strong). Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, stirring every few seconds. Serve in large bowl. Garnish options: Additional sesame seeds, nuts, scallions, etc. ENJOY!
