Good applesauce is not hard nor does it require a lot of ingredients. I found this recipe in my old Betty Crocker cookbook. Strangely, I could not find this recipe anywhere on 'Zaar in the same proportions. This recipe is perfect everytime.
Ingredients:
6 -8 apples, medium
1/4 cup water
Directions:
1. Peel and dice apples.
2. Add apples to crockpot or sauce pan.
3. Add water.
4. Cook in the crockpot on low for approximately 6 hours. Stir occassionally to mush the apples. At the end of the cooking, they will all of a sudden be real mushy.
5. You can make this on the stove too. You will have to cook on low and stir more frequently to avoid burning. The apples will probably cook faster on the stove.
6. If you use granny smith apples, you may want to add sugar, but otherwise, most apples have enough sugar in them to make your applesauce plenty sweet.
