My 8 year old is learning to cook, and he made these for us this morning. He did a great job, they were delicious! The recipe comes from the Woman's Day cookbook, The ABC Of Kids Cooking. Ingredients:
40 g butter |
3 granny smith apples, peel and cored and diced |
2 tablespoons maple syrup |
1 tablespoon caster sugar |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1/4 cup sultana |
2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed |
1 egg, lightly beaten |
2 teaspoons icing sugar, for dusting |
8 scoops ice cream, to serve |
Directions:
1. Melt butter in a large frying pan over medium heat. Cook apple, stirring occasionally, for 4-5 minutes until tender. Stir in maple syrup, sugar, and cinnamon. Cook, stirring, for 4-5 minutes until liquid boils and thickens. 2. Transfer mixture to a bowl. Stir in sultanas. Set aside for 15 minutes to cool, then chill until mixture is cold. Preheat oven to hot, 200°C Cut each pastry sheet into 4 even sized squares. 3. Spoon 2 tablespoons of apple mixture onto one half of each pastry square. Brush edges with a little egg. Fold pastry over filling to form a triangle, pressing edges to seal. Brush with remaining egg. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden. Dust with icing sugar and serve with icecream. |
