This recipe came from an estate sale. I obtained it when I purchased the family collection from the Marcus Estate in Greenville, Texas in 1994.
Ingredients:
4 medium tart apples
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 cups sifted all purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 sticks butter softened
1 cup granulated sugar
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup currant jelly melted
2 tablespoons toasted slivered almonds
Directions:
1. Pare quarter and core apples then slice thinly into bowl and toss with sugar and cinnamon.
2. Preheat oven to 350 then grease rectangular baking pan.
3. Sift flour, baking powder and salt onto wax paper.
4. Beat butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla in a bowl with electric mixer at high speed for 3 minutes.
5. Stir in dry ingredients alternately with sour cream then beat until batter is smooth.
6. Turn into prepared pan then arrange apple slices on top and bake 1 hour and 15 minutes.
7. Cool in pan on wire rack then brush with melted jelly and sprinkle with nuts.
