This is totally different from the basic apple pie....the cream makes for an interesting twist.... Ingredients:
dough for double pie crust |
6 cups apples, pared, sliced thin (use tart apples) |
3/4 cup sugar |
1/4 cup brown sugar |
2 tablespoons flour |
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
1/8 teaspoon salt |
1/4 cup heavy cream |
3 tablespoons butter |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. 2. Line a pie pan with half the pastry. 3. Add 1/3 of the apples. 4. Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt together. 5. sprinkle 1/3 over apples; repeat layers twice. 6. Pour cream into center of pie. 7. Dot with butter. 8. Cover with top crust; slit for steam. 9. Brush with milk and sprinkle with sugar. 10. Bake for 1 hour. |
