Lucy Leahy, from Oakland, makes this recipe with easy-to-grow anise hyssop, which has a minty licorice flavor. If you don't have any on hand, you can use regular mint leaves, and it will be just as refreshing. Ingredients:
1 cup sugar |
1/4 cup fresh anise hyssop or mint leaves |
1/2 cup hard apple cider |
1/2 cup brewed black tea, cooled |
apple wedges for garnish |
Directions:
1. Put sugar and 1 cup water in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave until very warm, then stir to dissolve sugar. Add anise hyssop, cover bowl, and set aside about 1 hour. Strain syrup. 2. Fill 2 glasses with ice and add 2 tbsp. syrup to each. Pour in cider and tea. Garnish each with an apple wedge. Chill remaining syrup to use another time. 3. *Find in grocery stores alongside beer. 4. Note: Nutritional analysis is per serving. |
