This is an old 4H recipe that I haven't been able to find anywhere on the Internet, so posting here. Even people who don't like Cream of Wheat as a cereal love this snack/ dessert! Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups milk |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
3 tablespoons butter |
1/2 cup farina, uncooked (quick or instant cream of wheat) |
1 egg, beaten |
1/3 cup sugar |
1 tablespoon lemon juice |
3 -4 tart apples, peeled and sliced |
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon |
Directions:
1. Combine milk, salt and 1 tablespoon of butter in a saucepan. Bring to a boil (watch closely - milk burns easily when boiled.). 2. Slowly stir in cream of wheat. Stir until it thickens. Lower the heat and cook 5 minutes. 3. Stir in 1/4 cup sugar and lemon juice, add egg. Mix well. Pour into a greased 9 baking pan. 4. Arrange apples in three rows over the top. Press into the mixture. 5. Combine the remaining sugar and the cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle over the cereal and apples. Dot with remaining butter. 6. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. |
