Modernly, beer-batter fried apple slices seem like something one might find at a state fair, but in the middle ages this recipe was found in the cookbooks of the nobility. Ingredients:
1 apple |
1 cup flour |
1 egg |
1/2 cup beer |
1 tablespoon sugar (optional) |
oil (for frying) |
confectioners' sugar, as topping |
Directions:
1. Peel, core, and slice apples. Mix flour, egg, beer and sugar to make a thick batter. 2. Coat apple slices and deep fry in oil until golden. Serve hot, dusted with powdered sugar. |
