A classic recipe that in today's world is sadly forgotten. It's time to bring it back. Ingredients:
2 cups applesauce |
2 bs cornstarch |
1/2 cup sugar |
2 eggs |
2 cups milk |
1 tsp vanilla extract |
pinch of salt |
whipped cream for garnish (optional) |
Directions:
1. Chill applesauce (Buy natural no sugar added if you can) 2. In a bowl mix cornstarch and sugar with just enough cold milk to make a thin paste. 3. Beat in the eggs, set aside. 4. In saucepan, bring remainder of milk to boil 5. Using wire whip, stir boiling milk slowly into paste. If you go too fast you will scramble eggs. Stir hard. 6. Return to saucepan and cook stirring constantly until very thick. 7. Stir in vanilla. 8. cool stirring occasionally so no skin forms. 9. Stir in applesauce and chill. 10.
