Recipe for apple dumplings. I haven't tried this one but it looks good. The lemon peel makes it unique. Ingredients:
1 pastry for double-crust pie |
1 teaspoon lemon peel |
4 teaspoons butter |
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed |
1 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/8 teaspoon allspice |
1 1/2 cups water |
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
4 medium cooking apples |
4 teaspoons cinnamon sugar |
1/2 cup light corn syrup |
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg |
1/8 teaspoon clove |
2 tablespoons butter |
Directions:
1. Prepare pastry, adding nutmeg and lemon peel. 2. Roll dough about 1/8 inch thick, cut into 4 equal squares. 3. Peel and core apples. 4. Put 1 teaspoon each butter and sugar in apple. 5. Set on square of pastry. Bring opposite ends of pastry over apple, sealing edges. 6. Combine remaining ingredients, boil. 7. Bake in buttered dish at 500 degrees for 10 minutes or 350 degrees for 45 minutes, basting often with syrup. |
