Apple Deliciousness (Apple Kuchen) |

Not your average apple kuchen. It's actually more like an apple pie- but I got the recipe from the LA Times food section last year and everyone I've shared it with seems to love it. Ingredients:
1 cup flour |
1 tablespoon sugar |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1/2 cup butter |
1/2 cup flour, sifted |
1/2 cup sugar |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
4 tablespoons butter |
4 cups cooking apples, peeled and sliced, about 6 large (jonathan or empire) |
1/3-1/2 cup white sugar or 1/3-1/2 cup light brown sugar |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F. 2. Crust: Combine dry ingredients. Cut in butter until mixture resembles tiny peas. Pat into 7x11 inch brownie pan or 9 inch square pan. Set aside. 3. Streusel: Roughly work ingredients with fingers until combined and crumbly. Set aside. 4. Filling: Sprinkle apples with combined sugar and cinnamon and stir until coated. 5. Evenly spread apples into crust and sprinkle with streusel. Bake 45 to 50 mins or until brown and bubbly. |
