Apple Cranberry Dumplings |

Another one from an older issue of Southern Living Ingredients:
5 medium granny smith apples, diced |
1 cup whole berry cranberry sauce |
1/2 cup chopped walnuts, toasted |
2 cups flour |
1 tablespoon baking powder |
1 teaspoon salt |
2 tablespoons sugar |
1/2 cup shortening |
3/4 cup milk |
2 cups water |
2 cups sugar |
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon |
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves |
1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine |
Directions:
1. Stir together first three ingredients; drain. Combine flour and next three ingredients. cut in shortening with pastry blender till crumbly; add milk, stirring till dry ingredients are moist. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface; knead 3-4 times. Roll dough into a 18 x 12 inch rectangle. spread apple mixture over dough. roll up, jeelyroll fashion, starting at short end. Cut into 1 inch slices, and place, cut side down, in a greased 13 x 9 pan. Bring 2 cups water and next 3 ingredients to boil in pan; boil 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and stir in butter. pour hot syrup over dumplings. Bake 425 for 35-40 minutes. Serve warm. |
