An apple cobbler with a crisp topping. It's even better prepared in a dutch oven over the coals of a camp fire. Ingredients:
apple filling |
5 c granny smith apples, peeled, cored, sliced |
3/4 c sugar |
2 t flour |
1/2 t cinnamon |
1/4 t salt |
1 t vanilla extract |
1/4 c water |
1 t butter, softened |
topping |
1/2 c flour, sifted |
1/2 c sugar |
1/2 t baking powder |
1/4 t salt |
2 t butter, softened |
1 egg, slightly beaten |
Directions:
1. In a medium bowl, combine all topping ingredients except the butter. 2. Turn into a lightly buttered 9-inch square pan. 3. Dot apples with 1 tablespoon butter. 4. Combine all topping ingredients. 5. Beat with wooden spoon until batter is smooth. 6. Drop batter in portions, over the apples, spacing evenly. Batter will spread duringbaking. 7. Bake 35 to 40 minutes at 375° or until apples are tender and 8. crust is golden brown. 9. Serve warm with cream or ice cream. |
