Ingredients:
4 large cooking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced |
2 (16-ounce) cans tart red pitted cherries, drained |
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind |
1/2 cup lemon juice |
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon |
1 cup all-purpose flour |
1 cup sugar |
pinch of salt |
1/2 cup butter, softened |
vanilla ice cream (optional) |
Directions:
1. Combine apples, cherries, lemon rind, juice, and cinnamon; toss well. Spoon mixture into a lightly greased 13- x 9- x 2-inch baking dish 2. Combine flour, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl; cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle topping over fruit mixture. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 55 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is golden brown. Serve warm with ice cream, if desired. |
