Another venerable goodie from Grandma Roberts, it is a stretch to include the cheese in the title, I can only find it sprinkled on top! Ingredients:
3 cups of toasted bread crumbs |
3 tbsp melted butter |
3 large tart apples |
3/4 cup of brown sugar |
1/4 tsp nutmeg |
1/2 tsp cinnamon |
rind of 1/2 lemon |
juice of 1/2 lemon |
2/3 cup of hot water |
Directions:
1. Start your oven at 350 degrees. 2. Mix crumbs with the butter. 3. Place 1/3 of them in the bottom of greased baking dish. 4. Pare apples, core, slice thin. 5. Put half the slices on top of crumbs. 6. Sprinkle with sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon, rind and half the lemon juice. 7. Repeat ending with toasted crumbs. 8. Pour water over it all and bake 45 minutes. 9. Cool slightly. 10. Serve with whipped cream, sprinkled with cheddar cheese. |
